Campana Brothers
Humberto and Fernando Campana. An architect and a lawyer from rural Brazil. They are among the leading names in Brazilian and international design.
In 1989, they created Estúdio Campana. They have an innovative and avant-garde style. Their furniture is creative, playful, and unique, leading us to reflection and inquiry, using unconventional language.
Our work is to test the limits of materials to see what they offer in terms of aesthetics and comfort.
We want to build bridges, using artisanal processes that are weakened in society. We strive to value and revive the manual processes and communities of artisans who work for us.
The Brothers have a sustainable bias in their pieces. They are made from reused materials such as plastic, rubber, stuffed animals, ropes, and bricks. It's about re-signifying objects, giving them a new use. Fernando and Humberto transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
For these creations, the duo seeks inspiration from ancient craft techniques in Brazil and around the world.
Their furniture becomes works of art. The Campana Brothers are the perfect union of art and design. Their works are considered exclusive.
The Campanas are highly recognized internationally. So much so that some of their pieces are part of the collection of MoMA, an art museum in New York.
Yet, the brothers' work is not limited to furniture. They have partnered with brands such as Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, and Melissa. They also designed the 2013 São Paulo Fashion Week decor.
The duo's work has a unique, exceptional expression. Its purpose is to inspire. No one is indifferent to the Campana Brothers' pieces.
Their works critique society, which is extremely industrial, mass-produced, and full of inequalities. The pieces fit into contemporary and modern environments.
In 2009, the Campana Institute was created, aiming to work in the cultural, social, educational, and environmental spheres, with design-driven activities inspired by the style of Fernando and Humberto. It also seeks to ensure the conservation and survival of Brazilian artisanal techniques and maintain and promote the duo's artistic heritage.
Now that you know the Campana Brothers, you can be inspired to decorate your home with more creativity.
