Igor Rodrigues (Feira de Santana - BA, 1995)
Igor Rodrigues is a Brazilian painter whose artistic practice is grounded in a decolonial perspective, dedicated to the experience of the Black body in contemporary society. Self-taught, he began his work with digital painting (2008), progressing to graphite drawings (2013), charcoal and acrylic painting (2021), and oil painting (2022), delving deeper into figurative art research.
Mixing realism and surrealism, Igor Rodrigues explores issues of racism, empowerment, resistance, and human subjectivity, drawing on his experiences, psychology studies, and reflections on Blackness. His work is autobiographical in nature, but it engages with collective experiences, promoting resignification and healing. Theoretically, it is based on references from black authors, such as Grada Kilomba, Frantz Fanon, Isildinha Nogueira and Neusa Santos, who contribute to the foundation of its aesthetic and conceptual approach within contemporary Brazilian art.
